Debesh Roy is one of the most significant modern Bengali novelists who consciously used folk culture, local history, oral traditions, myths, and regional life as the core of his fiction. His novels give voice to marginal communities, especially from North Bengal, and preserve folk consciousness that is often ignored by mainstream historiography.
