Abstract

Women’s political representation in India has historically been a subject of debate and analysis.
In West Bengal, a state with a significant history of political movements and reforms, electoral
changes have influenced women’s participation in politics. This study examines the impact of
electoral reforms on women’s political representation in West Bengal, focusing on legislative
and local body elections. The research delves into the role of policy changes, voter behavior,
party strategies, and socio-economic factors affecting female representation. The study
employs both qualitative and quantitative analyses to assess whether electoral reforms have
positively impacted women’s political empowerment in West Bengal.
