Abstract

Educational inequality remains a persistent challenge in developing regions, reflecting
broader socio-economic disparities. This study examines the structural and social factors
contributing to educational inequality between rural and urban students in Maharashtra.
Drawing upon sociological frameworks such as structural functionalism and conflict theory,
the paper analyzes disparities in access to educational resources, quality of schooling, digital
infrastructure, and socio-cultural capital. The study highlights how geographic location
intersects with class, caste, and gender to produce unequal educational outcomes. By evaluating
government initiatives and policy interventions, the research also assesses the effectiveness of
current strategies aimed at bridging this divide. The findings underscore the need for inclusive,
context-sensitive educational reforms to ensure equitable learning opportunities across regions.
